The management of Federal University, Birnin Kebbi in Kebbi, says it has commenced screening of 1,100 prospective direct entry applicants for various degree courses in the university. The Public Relations Officer of the university, Malam Jamilu Magaji, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Birnin Kebbi on Monday.
Magaji said that the university would ensure that only qualified applicants were admitted, stressing that the admission was strictly on applicants choice of the institution and merit.
He added: “We will accommodate only those qualified for admission, both in character and knowledge.”
Magaji said that the committee would do justice to all manner of applicants, irrespective of religion, tribe, sex or region.
He then urged the applicants to exhibit decency and maturity during the screening and assured them that the university was open to qualified applicants.
Toyin Adebayo, one of the applicants seeking admission to obtain a B.Sc degree in Nursing, commended the institution for the screening.
Adebayo said that the screening arrangement was orderly.
The applicant promised to be a disciplined student if given admission, stressing that academic certificate was just another yardstick for qualification as character was also of great importance.
Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, was among the 12 universities established by the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2013.
