‘Any graduating student who engages in wild jubilation after final exam will face one year rustication’, Nasarawa State University management has warned.Similarly, any act of defacing school buildings with posters will attract same consequence.
These were contained in two separate memos both dated 21 October, 2016 and signed by John D. Efuna on behalf of the Registrar.
It reads: “It has become the habit of some students of Nasarawa State University to celebrate their graduation in a risky manner.“Worried by this ugly situation, Senate at its 58th Regular Meeting held on 29th September, 2016 prescribed one academic session rustication of any graduating student who celebrates his or her graduation in a risky manner”, the memo said.
On the other hand, “any student who engages in printing and wall posting of students’ campaign posters and other prints” will attract the same punishment.
The memos which were addressed to “all students” and copied to the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic & Administration), Deans, Head of Departments, Chief Security Officer (CSO), Information and Protocol Officer and to be placed on all notice boards, instructed “the CSO and other Officers of the University” to enforce the decision of the Senate.
(Recall that a graduating Geography student lost his life while celebrating his graduation in September, 2016.)
