– for xxx| by Hauwa| a poem

loving you is

sitting still as held breath,

beside a smile

on a cliff

as the sun draws

a floral gown

on my face

while my body and heart

remain unclad

as sand on the beach

loving you is swallowing

words

that keep seeking redemption

on my tongue

after the heart

casts them out

as weaned child

loving you is folding

your name delicately

putting it in my

closet

and your name takes many forms:

liquid, seeping into

thick linen of thoughts;

pacing heart, giving life

to the darkness in the closet

excited blood,

giving music

to the gathering in

a chaotic body
